Hey Rebecca:

Can you share with the community some good post workout meals. I have heard chocolate milk is actually a great choice. Do you agree?

I totally argree with the chocolate milk post workout! But the ratio of Carbs and Proteins is a little high on the carb/sugar side but if that's all you got then it will work but I wouldn't suggest using that all the time. It's about a 80% carb to 20% protein and you need more of a 60 to 40 ratio.

Designer Whey protein Blitz has 30 grams of protein and if you eat an apple or two with it you got a perfect ratio. It's always best to consume some sort of liguid after your workouts because your body will absorb it quickly and utilize the protein fast.

Thanks Rebecca. I have always heard that the post workout meal is the most important as well. If a protein drink is not available what other post workout food combo's would you recommend. Plain Yogurt and fruit, Cottage cheese..?

Yogurt and fruit is a very good carb portion part of your protein/carbs post meal but you need a little more protein and the cottage cheese your body will digest it too slowly. You want something that will go quick into the muscle to see any gains. 20-30 grams of protein would be ideal and is about average. I would suggest looking at any drink that says protein on the label. EAS and Muscle Milk are some of my favorites as well!

Premaking your own shake with one scoop of your favorite protein powder, maybe some soy milk, 1-2cups of fruit and 1 cup of ice. Be creative so you don't get sick of the same thing. You just have to remember to make it then take it with you and store in a fridge so it's ready to go right after your workout.

Stay away from the solid foods after a workout...it just doesn't give your body what it needs right away!

Rebecca

So really the key is for your post workout that consuming protein in a liquid form is really the way to go.  Thanks for clarifying this Rebecca.
