The winter is on it's way where I live and I am wondering what I can do to help my 2 little mutts through it.  I'm looking ofr advice for both inside and outside.  Would a good fish oil help their coats this winter?  Is there something else I should be giving them as supplements?  I feed them dry dog food.  One is a 6 month old male (15 lbs) and one is a 3 year old female (30 lbs).  They are both mutts and neither is overweight for their size.

Thanks!

Hi Scoutmom-

Thanks for sharing your question here. Thought I would jump into the conversation as I have 2 pups myself and I am always looking at ways to increase their wellness. I personally think the first thing that all pet owners should look at is the quality of the food that we provide to them. Like ourselves, I believe our pets can benefit from foods that are free of chemicals, preservatives, dyes and additives. Unfortunatly there are many brands out there that our loaded with these ingredients. I am personally a big fan of organic food and also reading labels to see what a food is composed of ( even treats) before I purchase it. It's a bit more expensive I know but i think in the end it pays for itself. My boys are both seniors and I have to tell you I hear all the time about how good they look and at 10 and 12 years of age they are active and still act like puppies. :)

I also supplement their diets with fruits and veggies- they love broccoli, carrots, melon, bananas and even cooked spinach and lettuce.  Just remember there are certain foods that are poisonous like grapes, onions , raisins and chocolate. Let me know if you would like me to share the complete list with you.

Looking forward to sharing ideas with you and others here.
