First I think you need to find out if you truly have too much acid, as your doctor is probably telling you. You may in fact have too little and not too much. This can be confusing as it can produce the same symptoms. Not sure where you are located but the best and most accurate way to find out is to get what is called a Heidelberg pH test. You can find out who does this in your area by going to phcapsule.com.
You can also try taking a hydrochloric acid supplement with your meal (never on empty stomach) and see if this helps reduce some of the symptoms your having. If so - you are most likely low in stomach acid.
For acute reflux you can try a product called Heartburn Stop, a chewable natural acid suppressor. This is a temporary solution, whereas figuring out the acid level you are actually producing will be more helpful in the long run.
