My best advice for your mother, raw milk and pasture fed eggs.  Simply put, life as a vegetarian is doing her much more harm than good.  The human body is created to opperate on animal proteins and fats.  I know that's not politically correct, but it is historical fact.

Sounds like what I went through a few years back.  Went right down to 105 pounds within a few months.  In addition I was having trouble keeping food down.  It is quite possible your mother may have a food allergy.  Not an easy thing to diagnose and it takes a long time for the intestinal tract to repair after a life time of eating the offending food.  Common food allergens include nuts, grains, soy, milk and/or foods of the nightshade variety.  Often people with food allergies suffer from Adrenal exhaustion as well which is an ailment most doctors do not recognize as real.

I am very allergic to grains related to wheat (wheat, barley and rye).  Recovery has been slow, but steady.  I basically take suppliments to counter malabsorption and products that help the intestinal tract repair.  I read ingredients very very carefully before I purchase anything.  You wouldn't believe all the foods that contain wheat flour.

Perhaps the most important food I use all the time is a good quality organic yogurt (I prefer Stonyfield which is available in soy or milk).  Also important are digestive enzymes, which if they are any good are usually expensive.   Sprouted whole brown rice is a plentiful source of lipase, a fat enzyme, which allows the absorption of fats and oils (there are websites that explain how to make this if you'd like to try it).  Lipase available over the counter is very expensive, and in my experience does not work well.

to loose weight and keep it off is alot more difficult for females.  Ive followed metaphysics for quite some time and have learned that the healthier someone, man or woman the more they will have the weight loss effects that they had in their youth.  To do this it was recomended by a doctor to me rebuild all of the areas of my body again.  I was told to do this by following a special diet scientifically designed to keep my body free of toxins while i rebuild it with food and suppliments

                                           diet is as follows:  breakfast is protiens:  poched eggs not fried (cooking butter or any oil 

                                                                                                                                                                  is not good)

                                                                           nuts berries etc.

                                                  lunch   fresh salad

                                                  dinner:     ( no protiens):  takes longer to digest  *  will turn to fat

                                                                     eat  non starchy cooking vegitable dish

                                                                      if you eat a whole grain dish use actual whole grains such as kamute,

                                                                     millets, and quimoa  (note)   mix with veggies for fiber and only after cooking

                                                                    put olive oil on it  do not cook any oils  

               * Olive oil is the only oil that withstands high heat but not to the cooking point then it goes bad

pour it on after cooking

suppliments    digestion: trifala, magnesium citrate, vit C, trace minerals, vinegar, probiotics

                        also take a suppliment for each of the following liver, adrenals, thyroid, kidneys, viens,

                             whey or soy protien protien, and specific gender suppliments, multi vit, good B

                            suppliment, B 12,  COQ10 with ubiquinol, a good fish oil, flax oil,

note: refrigerate probiots, trace minerals and coq10          (excersize daily)

if you have good digestion you release all toxins from the body nor are you allowing any toxins in if you eat this diet your body has no choice but to repair anything wrong after it repairs you will start feeling younger your weight loss should be better your definately wont catch as many viruses or colds dramatic drop in chance of disease ( this is also a low gluten diet)

    if you are still very hungry all the time take product :  PGX in weight loss section as directed

try to eat organic but no matter what wash your veggies!!!!!!!!!

it sounds as though you mother needs to rebuild her body i had to once as well for a liver problem my doctor gave me a universal diet for keeping toxins out of the body this way eventually the body would repair itself as long as your not dead you can repair the body from anything some even specuate a cure from aids anyway here is the diet

                           breakfast: protiens good fish, 

                                                                poached eggs ( not fried)

                                                                  fruits, berries, yogurt, kafir,  tofu,   (plain yogurt only add your own fruit) flavored yogurt is all sugar

                                   lunch: fresh salad

                                                 includes anything from breakfast

                                dinner:  no protien 

                            non starchy cooking veggies

                                   may add grain (use only whole grains low in gluten these are:

                                 kammute millet quimoa

                                  (must mix with veggies for fiber and only after cooking must put olive iol on top to

                                  protect liver when the grain turns to sugar

           note:  olive oil can withstand hight temperatures but not cooking temperatures it gos rancid

             store olive oil in dark cool place

   suppliments: diggestion:  trifals, magnesium citratrate, trace minerals, vit C,  probiotics

                             also take suppliments for kidney, thyroid adrenals brain function immune a raw food multi

                              vitamin COQ10 with ubiquinol for absorbtion vit B complex Vitamin D3 a good fish oil flax

                              flax oil and suppliments for gender blood suger, veins, cholesterol  whey protien fiber calcium lutien  glucosumein and conjointant only with msm

 refrigerate: fish iol flax iol trace minrals and COQ10 w/ ubiQ

this will help your mother and anyone who is ill or just not as youthful as they used to be

 if still has big appitite try PGX in diet section while still on program  each time taken it blocks sugar from hitting your system you'll be less hunry after a day or two follow directions on bottle

if needs a sweet buy low sugar protien or heath bar, no more than 6 grams of sugar

excersize     minimum: walk yoga 5pond weights it reduces bone loss and helps overall health 

its easy and very inexpensive to wear your body down     

try to eat oganic but either way wash your veggies                            

his mother obviously has health issues you need to do it scientifically and get and make overall health better not mask symptoms

Re Vegetarian diet:

I cannot speak for Vegan diet which precludes animal products, but I have eaten a flesh free (nothing with eyelashes) since the age of 27, for humanitarian reasons.  I have lived a life of the Lacto-Vegetarian.  Raw whole milk and free-roaming farm eggs are part of my food varieties.  As an anemic child, with many allergies, and every illness that came along ... I accepted this as the normal human condition.

Surprise to you, I am an exceedingly healthy and active 82-year-old woman today and continue a full social life: no medications, no pains.  Still do full headstands and backbends as well as a young woman.  Have taught body conditioning exercises and meditation techniques for the past 49 years.  Also, still give regular workshops ... commuting (and driving my own car) to various cities.

Sorry ... but you are deadly wrong regarding meat eating .... and you are ill-informed re the terms Vegan/Vegetarian.
